A wild road movie comedy with an all-star cast—based on Simone Borowiak's novel of the same name

The story follows three very different women: the spirited and newly pregnant Mrs. Rettich, the outspoken trade union activist Czerni, and the shy librarian Sophie. Together they set off on a journey to Spain, where Mrs. Rettich hopes to marry her supposedly perfect Spanish lover. Along the way, however, their travel plans and romantic expectations begin to unravel. Featuring a strong cast led by Iris Berben, Martina Gedeck and Jeanette Hain, the film combines humor, romance and emotional warmth. Its story thrives on misunderstandings, unexpected encounters and a series of comic complications that constantly send the characters in new directions. Beneath its light-hearted and sunny atmosphere, the film explores themes of friendship, self-discovery and the unpredictability of life. The journey becomes a search for happiness and fulfillment, revealing that personal independence and mutual support can be far more valuable than romantic dreams. With its Mediterranean setting, charming ensemble cast and affectionate humor, "Mrs. Rettich, Czerni and I" remains a characteristic example of late 1990s German comedy cinema.
